Workout

topic posted Fri, April 11, 2008 - 10:42 AM by  Geert
I have found that when I sport I am more connected in all layers.
When working on my body, it is a direct improvement of my spirit and willpower, plus.. it makes my body happy.
I jog and work my muscles with weights to stretch and keep in condition.
To sweat and feel that heart working is a nice feeling.

Do any of you wizards sport? What do you do? And does it have an effect on your spiritual abilities?

I agree, i definately feel better all over, mind, spirit, soul, as well as in my body when i've excercised.

I do belly dancing/Middle Eastern Dance, and kickboxing, i find that walking in the great outdoors also lifts my spirits, i find myself more connected to the world around me

Weight training was the first connection I had with my body.
Fully present, aware, fully "in" my body.

But there was a second element in play.
I was in that meditative space, yet fully aware of the gym/world going on around me. A mini-version of being "in both worlds at once".

"I'm in the Zone" athlete's will say. And they often describe time/space bending visions of their sport when in that space.

I believe "the zone" to be a highly spiritual state where the entry mechanism is the physical body rather than a rattle, drum, or plant medicine.

I'm a dancer and it feels sooo good to move and sweat and raise my heart rate! Dancing brings me into my body, into the present moment. It opens a 'direct connection' for me. Over time I have found it has a huge tie-in with my sense of well-being. When I dance regularly I am more healthy, more happy, I have more energy.

Agree'd! I started Tribal Dance a year ago, and I don't have anything in my past that I can associate this feeling with. This last year of progression for me all started with the Dance, and it's been 100 miles-an-hour-full-speed-ahead ever since.. I am more aware and in tune not just with my body, but with everything around me. It is truely ..blissfull :D

Most definitely for me. I run, and do various types of physical activities. From kickboxing, dance, biking, to weight training, and now capoeira.

My body loves it! My soul loves it. When I get into the zone, I pray as I move. I channel positive thinking into my movements, and ask the universe for what I want when I am in that flow....it keeps me clear, and helps to remove stagnation that may hinder my "spiritual abilities".

    :)

I have discovered a new form of ecstatic dance/kundalini yoga workout,
      I call it Hooptrance!
Go to a good band outdoors, hoop until you can't hoop no more!
Hooping requires being grounded, and fully aware of your axis, plus it's great for your abs!

Excersise is fundamental to our physical and spiritual beings, I can't imagine being a healer and not being engaged in some kind of physical activity to move the energy around in my body. I have done many different things, from yoga to resistance training, martial arts, capoera, running, I even did a breakdancing class yesterday. Excersise, on a physiological level, releases all of those positive chemicals and hormones into our bodies. Excercise really helps to detoxify the body, move stagnant energy, and of course, put you in a positive mood, all of which make you a better healer. And I find that it ties into other practices, like using plants/entheogens etc. for meditative and journeying purposes; meaning that when your body is clean and responsive to eliminating toxins, it can respond better to the effects of using plants or entheogens. Your mind is clear, and you can ground more easily. You can come back to the physical plane more equipped to integrate your experiences for yourself or for the benefit of others.

            yoga, martial arts...totally

But in leiu of training (both can take tremendous amounts of free time), just stretching every morning & occassionally refocusing attention to my breathing more than my thoughts make a difference on how I feel physically that day.

Also big wave surfing (which I did a lot of growing up in Hawaii) can be EXTREMELY spiritual.

              Oh my yes....

I Row a single Scull. It really is a fine meditation. Being on the water in the early morning is Divine. Every stroke is an opportunity for refinement and personal inquiry. I also do Yoga Often. Many times when I'm with Plant Medicines I get very "Kinesthetic". I get in touch with my body in a profound way through movement.
