In a recent thread the subject of pedophilia was raised. Specifically, a poster's writing style was compared to spiritual pedophilia. While I disagree with that assessment, it raises a terrible and fascinating topic.

I question the conventional definition of "Demons". My research into the history of them convinced me that they've been sensationalized, bastardized, simplified, syncretized, and used to belittle and (literally) demonize non-christian beliefs. However, I'm going to talk about a real 'demon' that I have observed, because that is the only word to describe this horrific tendency among spiritualists of all types.

There is a demon that inhabits the path to spiritual awareness or enlightenment. It is the worst thing I can imagine, and the evil that it spreads on earth is unsurpassed. Its effects echo through history, and it seems to be present in all cultures, and all levels of spiritual organization or mystical tradition.

This demon is a predator that uses spirit to gain power over the weak and innocent. We are familiar with it from the Catholic sex scandals, but it is present everywhere. I have heard from victims and near-victims who have experienced this demon's influence through gurus, zen monks, New-Age rebirthers, Protestant Priests, and voodoo doctors. All faiths, all creeds, all mystic paths, seem to pass by this demon, and he grabs hold and possesses those whose flesh is too weak. They abuse their authority, or their wisdom, or their practices, to gain the trust of their students or adherents, and then take advantage of them.

The damage they do in this predation is physical, emotional, mental, sexual, spiritual, and lasting. It affects the families of the abused, the friends, the children, and future generations. It is one of the most horrible things that can be done, and yet it is so common...

What is it about spirit that attracts such a horrible demon, that causes people to inflict such lasting damage on innocent seekers of wisdom and truth?

I have a hard time believing that there is no right or wrong, no good or evil, when such things exist.

Hi Nick. I'm not sure if you are asking if we believe in demons. I believe in spirits. I am a spirit using a body to learn and have fun. I believe in good and evil. I will explain their meanings more accurately than you will find in the dictionary so I can clarify any further responses. The following is an excerpt from an essay of mine. "A wise man taught me that evil is the desire to win along with the willingness to take action to win while leaving your humanity behind. The more cruel or inhumane you are willing to behave in order to win defines how evil you are. He also taught me that good is the desire to serve. The greater your desire to serve the more good you are. The words "good" and "God" come from the same root word in olde english which is "gud". So, to be good you need to be "God" which means to serve the creation of which everyone is a part." Based on the above, I believe that evil spirits exist. I've also been present for a demonic exorcism. I take a vow every year to oppose evil when I meet it on the path. Evil spirits use the living as people use refrigerators. The Hawaiian culture called them "eating companions" because the energy you make from food and live on is also what they need and so they steal it from you. In a society so highly influenced by sports and marketing, I'm not surprised to see evil deeds on the rise. It also just happens to be one of the signs that this civilization is on it's last legs. Aloha, Kahuna Lamaku.

We had a Hawaiian Kahuna stop by our offices one day in the mid 1990's and spent several hours talking with Lani. His first name was Steve. He was very friendly and he and Lani pronounced each other as real. Two female shamans named my Kahuna who was known as Thomas Stucker. His full name became Hoanoiwahinenui Ho'alani or Lani for short. One lady was a Cherokee medicine woman named Carol Silverman. God, I miss her. The second was Laura Kealoha Yardley. You are welcome to send her an e-mail and ask her about it. She can be reached at "HeartofHuna.com. I believe Carol passed away. Lani was a "Rocky Boy" dancer and shamans always recognized him whether he was on or off the reservation. I've been told that many racists have been reborn as natives they hated in their last lifetime and their hatred lives on. The spirit does things like that in order to learn. Being native doesn't mean anything to me. Centuries ago native americans were told not to drink alcohol and ignoring that resulted in several deities leaving. The wind used to have one name. Now, it's the four winds. Don't believe me? Ask a medicine man. Aloha, Kahuna Lamaku.

Good people are known by their.......words? What? You mean a person can't stab you to death while saying they love you? You do have to prove you are a good person to......the people whom you love. Duh. Sir, you are confused. It sounds like you need to seek a medicine man from your own tribe. You don't seem to be thinking about what you are saying. You've used the word "hate" very freely on this tribe. It seems you are protecting your right to hate. Nice. There are clubs who hate together. Maybe you can find some friends amongst them. Oh wait. They might decide to someday hate you. Forget that idea. Hide. Watch television. Peek out your window to the people who are having fun without you. I have one more really good piece of advice for you. Learn to forgive. Without it, your relationships will all be short lived. Aloha, Kahuna Lamaku.

i was writing to respond on the post about darkness on the path toward spirit. i see that some old conflict has surfaced here and i do not understand it nor do i wish to take part. all i hope is that we can all drop our egos and defensiveness and perhaps learn to let go and forgive... i believe that we r all here on this path toward the light and that underneath it all, though we may make mistakes, we r trying to help people and the entire planet along with all of the creation that is here. misunderstandings will always happen. and sometimes we can't rememdy them no matter how much we try. as long as we know that no insult or harm was intended. Good luck ;^)

when i began my spiritual path many years ago. i was studying shamanism or the medicine way. many things opened up for me. new insights and abilities which blew my mind. after a while when my spiritual teacher was not as close i started to become deluded and fall off the path. i began to hallucinate and see demon faces everywhere and it seemed as if they were communicating with me. whether it was all in my head i don't know. all i know is that at times it felt as if i was being intentionally mislead by some spirit entities and attacked sometimes in my lucid sleep states. it seemed as if i would become unconscious for a week or 2. having strange thoughts which were not clear or pure. i took a class in reiki and learned to recognize the signs of this unconsciousness coming on. it would start with a pressure sensation in the back of my head..... so i would do reiki on that area and clear it. problem gone! when meditating i would hear the strange thoughts that seemed so out of character for me.... i became aware of them... and i let them go. slowly with attentive awarenes i walked the fine line of spiritual awakening with clarity.
there are energies and entities that try to make u fall off the path. they try to seduce you to trick. i have experienced it! full on. i don't know why... perhaps the age old battle between light and dark does exist. it sure seems like it if we look at the world... money monopolizers and the poor who r taken advantage of. war and love.

          those r my thoughts... ;^)

personally, I like to believe that light and darkness can be characterised as lower vibrations and higher vibrations.
the lowest vibrations correspond to the lower chakras and in that respect will represent forces like fear.
fear is in my mind the root cause of all the things that mankind can label as evil, or wrongdoing etc.

when we come across people, we can develop a synergy with them. there is an energy interplay and usually this effects how we respond to them and interact.
the ways we interact will usually be in hte areas of frequency overlap. so the areas of our being that are vibrating at the same frequency will react and that is where our focus will be when interacting with that person.
if we encounter darkness on our path, I believe that this darkness is already in our being, it just has not been resonating very strongly recently. only when coming across one who has the same frequency, the reverberation increases and we come to focus on this specific energy.

Some tribal philosophies describe the universe via music. Which should be no surprise considering that the word Universe means, Uni- One, Verse- Song (One Song). Anyhow, Lower and slower vibrations would be considered bass notes while higher and faster vibrations are treble or higher faster notes. The slower and lower notes support higher and faster notes, while the higher and faster notes provide range to the lower and slower notes. There is an support system as well as an exchange of vibrations, kinda like the Taoism of Music.

Anyhow, about the topic Nick brings up:

Darkness on the path toward spirit. It has become apparent that many religious institutions have unveiled "predators" within their sacred sects. This probably happens for a number of reasons including but certainly not limited to: The type of people attracted toward spiritual or religious positions of power. Rules on abstaining from sex. Even perhaps social perspectives on gay or lesbian tendencies and the stigma that people feel and their attempt to suppress their sexual nature. Regardless the reason, the implications on another human are detrimental in a given situation. Nevertheless, what about the person who has been preyed upon and yet their strength guides them to conquer such interactions? If in fact, people are "on a path toward spirit," and they bypass this "demon" perhaps it can catapult them into the higher and faster vibrations. Just chewing on some thoughts.

All are from the same source, darkness within darkness. Light and dark reflect each other, good and bad compliment one another.

Couldn't disagree more with you two gentlemen. Cut the romantic spiritual jargon and address the topic: sexual predation and its disturbing prevalence among religious institutions and master/student relationships...

Are you actually implying that we should honor and acknowledge sexual predators?

I was brought up to honor your shadow and your light as one..since they are both teachers...now about public morality and ethics..varies from culture to culture but I know right from wrong....people still take cuts...lol.
Child abuse is never right..but one must keep in perspective..that only for 200 and a few years been against )child abuse to some extent).
Older men married 12 year olds...My Grandmother married at 14 to avoid a pervert step father....point is..what was ok for millions of years has new ideas in just the past 2 centuries and 9 years.
I am just questioning..history and norms of millions of years changing so fast. An man is an animal..so there will always be killers, and perverts..cause it is bread into our DNA..you can't fight the wolf in you and be a "Shamon"...one can recognize ones darkness but not surpress it totally..it must be channeled to some positive endeaver..otherwise..as my culture states..it will physically manifest in your life..and eat you!

Question about a child..how old is someone when they are no longer a child?
a 10 year old tried and convicted of murder.
a 14 year old is old enough to give consent in Indiana and other states.
You have to be 16 or older to drive.
              21 to drink alcohol
so America has different ages for fifferent children...but I believe in protecting the childre..and getting perverts of the streets and in counciling!

              Hey Kalona..
              Now there is wisdom..
              Because it will.. eat you..
It is the cause of psychosis, the struggle between the instinct and the rational..
There is an image of ones self so many want to fake, to keep high..
To lie to ones self is like denying life in it's totality..
But the dark can be great inspiration...
Before one dares to recognize it there can be feelings of madness..
Only after that one can work with it..
To express the dark has been done through art in so many cultures and times..
              Ever read Marquis de Sade..?
He was an aristocrat in 17th century France. Yet he hated the fake, pompous attitude of the aristocratic class.
He wrote horrible sexually violent explicit novels and poetry, ripping the veil from the lie..
How under the first shiny holy exterior can lie sadism, witchcraft, rape and murder......
The word sadism was named after him.... actually...

              Living a lie...
              It is being done everywhere...
The wise one will get through to the pure essence.
Recognize the spirit through the fake outer layer...

woah! i was only talking about honouring the light and dark energies within... not condoning (sp) sexual predetation or any exploition of anyone or anything! i think if one is to have such thoughts which would cause harm to other people in any way.... that perhaps this individual needs to seek psychological healing. we need to learn to decifer for ourselves... our own moral code no matter what our culture states is 'normal' or 'right and wrong'. i strongly feel that if we r on a healing path and r trying to help others to heal also, then.... we need to take a good look at our own thoughts and try to ween out the harmful ones. internal cleansing. harmful thoughts towards others r felt. it's good to strive for clarity within our minds. the begining of the path is recognition of 'harmful thoughts' which may be occuring within our own minds...
i'm sorry that i was so misunderstood but i hope i make myself clear... i obviously was not that clear before...

we need to have compassion and empathy for all creation... which should hopefully negate bizzarre unwanton thoughts and actions. hopefully one can be aware enough to recognize unproductive and negative thought patterns within oneself.... and can see that if one has these impulses... that perhaps they need some healing intervention.

                blessings and much love.....

Memengwaa, I apologize for coming across as accusatory, I just hear enough pat answers that I appreciate when people expound on their perspectives.

Auton, I'm glad you bring up the flip side of this equation, as it seems having allies and guides is one of the only ways to avoid falling prey to the lower and slower vibrations on the path. I'm not sure if I completely resonate with your assessment of angels as strictly "intelligence", but I feel it may be more of a semantic disagreement than anything. I've always felt as though angels directed their energy towards compassion and evolution, towards us standing in our places of power. I'm not sure if thats the same thing as 'intelligence', but to each his own...

There's a couple stories I'd like to tell that really formed the seeds for my initial question, but I'm not sure if its appropriate to get into specifics... maybe I'll just omit the names. My reason for bringing this topic up is that too often it seems like new age spiritualists are trying to spin everything positively, glossing over the truly dark and evil things that we are all capable of. Its important to have convictions and be able to reject these temptations when they arise, and to hold space for those that have fallen prey to them so that true healing can occur.

Demons are the passions/passionalities of the human beings. Uncontrolled/unconscious demon takeovers are addicitions, perversions, blindless fanaticism etc. Pedophilia falls into this cathegory.

In contrast to demons, angels are intelligencies or intelligent, luminous ideas.
This why the only effective way to deal with demons is by intelligence. Intelligence is an invisible, materially non-manifesting light. As only 10% of the visible Universe is perceivable with our eyes, within the the remaining 90% is the unmanifesting light that we can still "sense" with our minds (in lower levels, as intelligent thinking, inspiration etc.) or with our soul (spirit), as Awakening or Enlightment as described by Buddha or other Eastern Traditions.

As from various sources known, human beings are prone to corruption. In other words, those who don't ascend upwards, will descend into the Abyss of annihilation. In both ascension or descension we have partners, helpers, seducers etc.

    Choose your path carefully.
