Hello,
Being fairly new to the ways of the shaman, I'd like to expand my practice and find a good group of people in the local LA/OC area. I am in my mid-20s and would prefer to find others in a similar age range. My goal is to work deeper into the ecstatic state with a trusting group. So far, my work has been solo and I feel I've already pushed that envelope as far as I should.
Any information or guidance is much appreciated.
Kind regards,

Re: LA/OC Shamans
Fri, September 25, 2009 - 7:49 PMWhy only people in your age range I wonder? To quote someone else "you don't need to be old to be wise, you don't need to be young to be innocent"
Start going out and meeting people and talking about this with your local community and you will find people who you resonate with, and then you can evolve together in your mission together -

Re: LA/OC Shamans
Fri, September 25, 2009 - 9:50 PMI only state "In my age range" because I've had older gentleman try to take advantage of me in a vulnerable situation. I suppose the same could happen at any age, but I'm just cautious. I mean no offense otherwise.
Go out an meet people where? I'm typically a white-collar engineer type with little exposure to the local shamistic/entheogenic community. I have no idea where to go out and meet like-minded people. Hence the reason for my post.
Thank you for your response.

There are many more kindred spirits in this area than you could possibly imagine. I remember a few years ago when I lived in Orange County and thought I was alone on this path... how wrong I was.
Tribe is a good starting point. Jason mentions one community, the greensector/moontribe guys. There are dozens more communities like them (not to diminish their uniqueness), and within each are hundred of people on paths similar to yours. I'd tell you about more, but finding them for yourself is half the fun!
Evolver.net also has regular gatherings/ spore collectives related to specifically to shamanism. You're bound to find some geeky engineers interested in entheogenic exploration in that crowd. The list goes on. LA Decom, or the full moon gathering that night, are both going to be rife with people who share your interests. Its amazing how large our community is here, I'm in the IE and there are fellow souls coming out of the woodwork!
As for the whole older dudes preying on spiritual neophytes, I've never experienced it but have heard too many examples of it for it to be a fluke. I even started a thread on it called "Darkness on the Path Towards Spirit" : shamanism.tribe.net/thread/5...ba977054e , it would be interesting to hear your perspective if its not too personal...
